2 million devotees expected at Nallur Kandasamy Kovil festival in Jaffna, Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's Tourism Ministry has set up plans to provide air travel facilities for pilgrims attending the annual Nallur Kandasamy Kovil festival in Jaffna, the government announced today.

According to the Tourism Ministry sources, the Ministry in cooperation with the Commercial Division of the Sri Lanka Air Force has made arrangements to provide air service to the peninsula.

This year's festival that began on July 27 and continues till August 19 has drawn thousands of devotees daily and the government expects a crowd of over 2 million from the country as well as from abroad from the Diaspora community.

Travel to the Jaffna peninsula by the land has just been allowed for the buses. Private transport using the main Kandy � Jaffna A9 highway is not allowed yet. The Sri Lanka Transport Board has deployed additional buses for the convenience pilgrims in the Jaffna peninsula. The government has deployed additional police to maintain law and order during the historic festival. The nighttime curfew that has been imposed has been lifted during the festival for the convenience of the devotees.
