Ashok Leyland Sees Massive Growth in Sri Lanka - CEO Gautam

The dawn of peace has brought in massive growth for Lanka Ashok Leyland with already 4000 units of its vehicles sold out during the 1st 9 months of this year.

This is compared to just 1900 vehicle units sold during the whole of last year.

The growth in sales has resulted in the company achieving a turnover of Rs. 10 billion during the April to December period, the first 3 quarters of its 2010 financial year.

In 2009 the total turnover was just Rs. 3.5 billion.

The company’s CEO Gautam Umesh says, “This is dividends of peace”.

He disclosed, out of 4000 vehicles sold so far, majority of them are normal buses, air conditioned coaches and tippers, while the rest falls under the heavy vehicle category like prime movers etc.

The company has already sold 78 AC buses during this year compared to just 5 buses sold during the whole of last year and most of them have been purchased by the tourism sector.

The price of a company’s AC bus stands at Rs. 8. 5 million.

In total the company plans to sell 6000 vehicle units during this financial year and forecasts a turnover of Rs. 15 billion and a net profit of Rs. 1 billion at the end of 2010.

Last year the annual net profit stood at just Rs. 202 million.

EXPANSION

The company says as there is a surge in demand for its vehicles from the North and East, it is planning to establish a fully equipped modern after sales & service facility in Jaffna.

EXPORTS

Mr. Gautam who is also the Head of SAARC Region of Ashok Leyland says” Lanka Ashok Leyland will be establishing an office and a dealer network in Nepal.

The company has asked for export incentives from the government to effectively move into the South Asian Nation.
