Sri Lanka's flagship ICT Expo, the Infotel 2010 will be held from October 1 to 4. The inauguration ceremony will be held on September 30 evening followed by Infotel Forum at the BMICH.
This event is organized by the Federation of Information Technology Industry of Sri Lanka (FITIS).
A series of programs parallel to that of the Infotel 2010 Sri Lanka ICT Expo have been organized to coincide with the National ICT week 2010.
This will be the tenth in the series and the exhibition has now expanded to include software developers and IT trainers and has even gone beyond boundaries to feature areas such as office automation and the telecommunication sector which too has become part and parcel of the ICT world.
Speaking on the main objectives of this year's Infotel 2010, Infotel Society Chairman Dr Ruvan Weerasinghe said. Infotel 2010 offers an ideal platform for ICT stakeholders in Sri Lanka and the neighbouring South Asian Region to explore and capitalize the new growth and wealth creation opportunities in the country.
One of the key highlights of the Infotel 2010 Expo is the participation of global telecommunications giants. Although this is a biannual event we are now planning to host this event on an annual basis. This year's Infotel Expo will be unique as it will not be limited to a show that showcases ICT product and gadgets but will be an event that will benefit many types of stakeholders such as the corporate and all other parties concerned where IT will be of use to them.
"There will be many aspects introduced to stimulate and encourage participation while enhancing the opportunity for sharing and transferring of knowledge related to the use of ICT in the growth and development process of the economy. All Infotel exhibitions have been quite successful over the years and this year we are interested in getting international participation especially from our neighbouring countries as well".
Chairman of the Infotel 2010 Organizing Committee A Jayaseelan said, the FITIS Young Computer Scientist (YCS) Awards as well as the National Best Quality Software Awards organized by the British Computer Society Sri Lanka (BCS) will also be conducted parallel to the Infotel 2010 Sri Lanka ICT Expo.
An interesting and knowledge enhancing program of activities has been planned for the ICT week to coincide with the Infotel 2010 Sri Lanka ICT Expo.
This includes the CEO conclave and walk, student day and career guidance fair where large numbers of students from schools in the Western Province are expected to participate. The glamorous Infotel Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner will be held on October 3 where part of the proceeds from the event will be donated to build computer training infrastructure in the North and the East.
