NOVA Airlines in Sweden recently commenced its charter flight service to Sri Lanka from Arlanda Airport in Stockholm, Sweden after 20 years.

NOVA Airlines would operate two charter flights weekly from Arlanda Airport and Gothemberg Airport every Sunday and Tuesday respectively until mid-April 2011. During this period they are scheduled to carry 8,440 tourists to Sri Lanka.

Prior to the departure of its first flight NVR 861 with 211 tourists, a ceremony was held, jointly arranged by the Embassy of Sri Lanka, Stockholm and NOVA Airlines at the airport with the participation of Head of Commercial Business and Facilities Arlanda Airport, Thomas Cassel and Managing Director of NOVA Airlines, Anders Fred.

Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Sweden Ranjith Jayasooriya, as the chief guest at the inauguration, warmly welcomed the passengers who joined the first tour organised by Apollo Tour Operators with NOVA Airlines and wished them a safe and enjoyable time during their stay in Sri Lanka.

The Ambassador requested them to share the pleasant memories with their friends and encourage them too to visit Sri Lanka in the future. The re- operation of charter flights from the Scandinavian region after more than two decades symbolises a bright future for our tourism industry.
