Jaffna International Trade Fair 2012 from 20 to 22 January at Alfred Durayappah Stadium. Over 200 Companies to Take Part in JITF

The third Jaffna International Trade Fair (JIFT) 2012 will open today in at the Alfred Durayappah stadium in Jaffna and conclude on 22.

The trade fair is set to attract over 200 companies both local and international, exhibiting in over 300 stalls. The organizers expect a capacity of over 60,000 visitors spanning from all areas of trade within the peninsula to be a part of the Jaffna International Trade Fair.

Within the course of three years the Trade Fair has been earmarked as a must witnessed event by many of the local traders and inhabitants as it paves the way for the direct synthesis and merging of the Peninsula with other parts of the global and local trade.

The region which was ravaged by war for over three decades has within it an immense potential to become a trade hub of its own and Lanka Exhibition and Conference Services have ensured that the trade fair helps realize this unearthed potential of the beautiful fort city.

Director of LECS Imran Hassan believes that the trade fair will evolve into being the most influential market place for the traders of Jaffna and those outside the region. "During the past years we held this event we have seen the enthusiasm within the locals and the exhibitors to create and add value to their product and services. The fair has been the ideal meeting ground for small timers as well as big players of the region to witness firsthand the emerging markets and technologies that could be applied in the peninsula. It has also paved way for networking and the strengthening of trade ties between different regions," he said.

The industries segmented include but are not limited to, tourism and hospitality, construction, food, beverages and packing, agriculture, fisheries, Information and communication technology, apparel, automobile, financial services and consumer goods.

The President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry of Sri Lanka Kumar Mallimaratchi believes that the Jaffna International Trade Fair has paved the way for the peninsula to be a part of the fledgling economy.

FCCISL Investor Forum Opens Doors for Investment in Jaffna

The Jaffna International Trade Fair was successfully concluded on January 23. It was organized by Lanka Exhibition and Conference Services (Put) Ltd, in association with the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Yarlpanam, Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL), and with the support of the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau.

The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Ashok K. Kantha inaugurated the event with the participation of Governor of Northern Province Major General G.A Chandrasiri, President of FCCISL Tissa Jayaweera, Indonesian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Abbar Hussain and officials from the Northern Province, according to a FCCISL statement.

Over 45 Indian companies representing National Small Industrial Corporation (NSIC) and State of Kerala participated showcasing various machinery, equipment, and useful products for agro-based and food processing industries. Business delegations from The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) were also present at the fair.

Speaking at the event, the Indian High Commissioner said that the indication of the high priority attached to the region was evident with India coming as the partner country for the second consecutive year and also the growing interest in developing businesses in Jaffna among the Indian business community was clearly seen with the major participation of Indian businessmen at the fair.

The highlight of the fair was the two and a half day Investor Forum organized by FCCISL with the focus on SMEs development in the Northern Province, directed towards investment opportunities in Northern part of Sri Lanka following the end of the North and East conflict. The forum created a platform for diversified companies, service providers and many other traders those looking for investment opportunities and expansions to meet at one venue.

Jaffna International Trade Fair 2011 Starts on 21st January

Jaffna International Trade Fair 2011 (JITF 2011) will commence at the Jaffna Public Library Auditorium at 10.00 am tomorrow.

The trade fair will conclude on January 23. JITF 2011 is organized by Lanka Exhibition and Conference Services [LECS], in collaboration with the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka. JITF 2011 is organized in association with the Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Yarlpanam supported by the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau.

Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa will be the chief guest. Indian High Commission High Commissioner Ashok K Kantha, Industry and Commerce Minister Rishard Bathiudeen, Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Development Minister Douglas Dewananda are invited as guests of honour with Northern Provincial Council Governor Major General G A Chandrasiri for the opening ceremony.

For the Second Consecutive year, the Jaffna International Trade Fair 2011 will be held from January 21 -23.

The Fair is focused on supporting businesses in Jaffna with a separate pavilion in the exhibition for Industries in Jaffna.

Accordingly the event will be the biggest International event to be held in Jaffna.

Lanka Exhibition and Conference Services (LECS) will be encouraging and supporting industries in Jaffna by providing them with free stalls for the exhibition.

Further the participation of India’s National Research and Development Corporation and the National Small Industries Corporation will be an interesting fact while an entire pavilion is reserved for the Kerala business community from India.

Meanwhile apart from the large Indian Business gathering in this event Pakistan and Indonesian business community along with many International business delegates will also participate in this Fair to encourage the businessmen of the Northern Peninsula.
