Aircraft component manufacturer Aero Sense (Pvt) Ltd is making plans to invest approximately US1 million in Sri Lanka by setting up a manufacturing plant in the island. The company intends to manufacture aircraft sensors and transducers at the Flinth Industrial Park in Kadawatha through a production facility which is set to consist of state-of-the-art technology. Altogether 14 various types of aircraft components for international aircraft and helicopter manufacturers will be produced at this facility. The components will be used for pilot control, the measuring of positions, system controls and condition monitoring on all types of aircraft.
Chairman of the Flinth Industrial Park, Rune Flinth stated that the company is looking forward to establishing the new venture in the aerospace industry as demand for sensors on board aircraft has arisen thanks to modern technology. “With the capabilities we already posses in design development, and the expertise we posses in mechanical, electrical and electronic technology, coupled with the experience we have in wiring, assembling, laser welding and testing, together with our reliability in service, we are well equipped to conduct this project successfully in Sri Lanka,” Mr. Flinth said.
The level of competence that is expected to be generated from this new venture includes a complete range of capabilities with the highest quality of standards. “We are looking forward to manufacturing sensors for the measurement of position, pressure, force and land,” the Chairman of the Flinth Industrial Park noted.
Speaking on the choice of destination to carry out their operations, Mr. Flinth explained that the decision was made 20 years ago taking several factors into account. “While engaging in business in the USA I was on the look out for a cheap destination with high expertise to carry out the business. Hence, Sri Lanka was chosen as the ideal destination due to the location, capability of the engineers and the loyal workforce, and the highly cooperative banks and financial system,” Mr. Flinch said. “Sri Lanka is an outstanding location with high expertise that the world is not yet aware of” he noted.
The industrial park and the manufacturing process are expected to start in January next year and there is hope to have a workforce of 2,000 persons by 2014. “We are hoping to invest about USD2 Million by mid next year,” Mr. Flinch stated. Commenting on future potential the Chairman of the Flinth Industrial Park stated that all new aircraft designs are aimed at better performance and high efficiency with each generation needing more sensors than the last. “They also aim for better control, smoother flight and low fuel consumption as well as reliability and high level of safety,” he asserted while also stating that employee operations have already begun and that those employed will be sent to England for training.
