Safari park in Hambantota, Sri Lanka

16th July 2009, Lakpura Travels

Wildlife and nature lovers will be delighted to hear of the latest safari park due to be opened shortly in the Hambantota District. The park will be located on a 500 acre land close to the Mahapessa at Madunagala in Ridiyagama, in Ambalanthota.

An initiative of the National Zoological Department, the park will have facilities for reptile habitats, as well as those for animals and birds. The Safari park will be open for visitors by 2010 and will provide employment opportunities for youth of the Hambantota District. A Guide training programme is already underway at the Dehiwela Zoo, to equip those interested in working in this field.
