World's Largest Database On Famous Pearls launched

Internet Stones.com the popular online media firm dedicated to the development of the gem and jewelery industry worldwide has officially launched the world's most extensive reference database on famous pearls.

The project which has been in the pipeline for two years was undertaken by Dr Shihaan Larif and Mr Lareef Samad. They are both based in Sri Lanka, a country which is well known for cultured natural pearls. According to the recorded history of Sri Lanka, the Mahawamsa the great historical chronicle of Sri Lanka, the pearl industry was well established by the 5th Century B.C. (The period of King Vijaya). The antiquity of the pearl trade in Sri Lanka is discussed under the Sultan Pearl Necklace.

In the famous pearls index page, the pearls are listed alphabetically with links to the individual pages on famous pearls. Each pearl is then discussed extensively on dedicated pages. Users are also welcome to ask questions, comment and give suggestions on our forums.

The origin, characteristics, scientific and historical aspects of each famous pearl is discussed extensively.

The database is available online free of charge for everyone to view.
