Sri Lanka Plans a 500MW Coal Power Plant in Sampur in the East

Sri Lanka is planning to build a US$ 500 million worth Coal power plant in Sampur, located in the Eastern province of the country.

The 500 Megawatt Coal power project will be a joint venture between the Ceylon Electricity Board and the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited of India.

Cabinet of Ministers have approved the move, which is aimed at meeting the increasing demand for electricity in the Eastern province.
