Sri Lanka government today activated several tsunami alarm signal towers located in Panadura, Kalutara, Maggona and Beruwela.
The Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights confirmed that they have simultaneously activated those tsunami alarm signal tower at 10:00 a.m. for testing.
However, the alarm signal tower at Katukurunda in Kalutara which was under repairs was not activated, it said.
Earlier the Ministry has asked the people in those areas to be calm during the rehearsal. The police and the media had created public awareness on the testing of the installations. The government has recently installed fifty Tsunami Towers through out the country.
The testing of towers in the districts of the Colombo, Gampaha, Puttalam, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Hambantota, Matara and Galle will take place on the 19th.
